School Profile:
Sherborne School is a boys' school which is located in the town of Sherborne in south-west England. It is one of the 24 public schools with long history, the most famous boys’ school in the south-west region. It is approximately two hours from London by road or rail. The school was founded in the mid-16th century and many of the buildings on the campus date back as far as the 12th century, giving a tangible sense of history to the surroundings.
Academic Success:
Sherborne aims to provide an outstanding, all-boys boarding education in a community that is based on Christian values. Excellent results in public exams have been achieved through the years. In 2019, 78% of A-Level grades are A*-B and 51% of GCSE grades are 9-7. The leavers go on to places at Oxford and Cambridge and the most competitive universities in the Russell Group. The school encourages their student to aim high so they work hard on providing well-informed advice to help students enter the university or career of their choice. They provide one-to-one, tailored support to those who are drafting UCAS Personal Statements, and they work closely with the academic and pastoral colleagues in discerning and responding to every student’s needs. The Higher Education and Careers Department annually surveys two cohorts of recent leavers about their university and employment experiences, and each year they offer a Lower Sixth Form Careers Convention to help students think about their next steps.

Boarding and Pastoral Care for students:
Each of the eight boarding houses has around 70 boys living in it, drawn from all year groups. A Housemaster and Resident Tutor live in each boarding house to take care of the boarders, assisted by the matron. Every student has a Personal Tutor, with whom they meet weekly to discuss their welfare and guide their personal growth. Sherborne school has its own Health Centre, which is staffed around the clock by a team of qualified nurses. The School Doctors visit for regular surgeries, and are available for emergencies. The school has a Private Physiotherapy Clinic as well. A full social programme is on offer and there are activities on most Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons,.
Extracurricular Activities:
They offer a diverse co-curricular programme, which means there is something to suit every taste. Alongside academic societies in every subject area, they provide intellectual and creative pursuits such as bridge, chess, computing, debating, photography, cookery, life drawing, film production, community service and drama. Thanks to the easy access to some of the UK’s finest scenery, they provide an extensive range of outdoor activities. In addition to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, they organise regular hiking, climbing, kayaking and sailing trips. The students also take part in the annual “Ten Tors Challenge”, and the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) provides plenty of opportunities to experience the rough and tumble of the great outdoors.
